Hand & Wrist Procedures

Carpal Tunnel Surgery

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common condition that causes pain, numbness, and tingling in the hand and arm. The condition occurs when one of the major nerves to the hand — the median nerve — is squeezed or compressed as it travels through the wrist.

Dupuytren’s Contracture Surgery

Dupuytren's contracture is a condition that affects the fibrous layer of tissue that lies underneath the skin in the palm and fingers. In patients with Dupuytren's, this tissue, known as fascia, thickens and then tightens over time. This causes the fingers to be pulled inward, towards the palm.

Trigger Finger/Thumb and other Tendon Releases

Tendons to the fingers and thumb can sometimes get caught in the pulleys they pass through on the way to their insertion site. The finger or thumb can get stuck in a flexed (trigger-like) position. It can be painful when the swollen tendon clicks as it passes through the pulley. Surgical treatment involves a simple release of the pulley. This enables the swollen section of tendon to pass unimpeded.

Arthroscopic Wrist Surgery

Arthroscopic wrist surgery involves keyhole surgery of the wrist. A fibreoptic telescope attached to a camera is used to visualize inside the wrist joint. A shaver and other tools can be used through another portal for various procedures.

Shoulder Procedures

Shoulder Replacement Surgery

Shoulder replacement surgery is used for a number of shoulder conditions including: arthritis, fractures and massive irreparable rotator cuff tears. There are several types of arthritis including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and rotator cuff arthropathy. Two common forms of shoulder replacement are the anatomic total shoulder replacement (aTSA) and the reverse total shoulder replacement (rTSA).

Shoulder Reconstruction Surgery

Shoulder reconstruction surgery involves the use of small incisions and special tools to treat shoulder conditions in a minimally invasive way. Conditions that may benefit from this kind of treatment include: shoulder dislocations, impingement and rotator cuff conditions.

Rotator Cuff Disease

A rotator cuff tear is a common cause of pain and disability among adults. Every consulting day Dr Hutabarat will see many patients about their rotator cuff. A torn rotator cuff weakens your shoulder. Activities like combing your hair or getting dressed, can become painful and difficult to do.

Shoulder Fracture Treatment

There are many different treatments for fractures around the shoulder that largely depend upon the type of fracture. Treatment terms you may hear of include: plating, intra medullary nailing and various types of shoulder replacement.

Hip Procedures

Hip Arthroscopy

Hip arthroscopy uses small incisions and special tools to treat certain diseases and conditions of the hip. The most common hip conditions treated with arthroscopy include labral pathology, femoro-acetabular impingement (FAI) and ligament issues.

Hip Fracture

There are many different treatments for hip fractures that largely depend upon the type of fracture. Treatment terms you may hear of include: pin and plate, intra medullary nailing and various types of hip replacement.

Hip Replacement Surgery

Hip replacement is done when the surfaces in the hip are worn out and painful. These days recovery is not as painful as it used to be thanks to better anaesthetic techniques and the anterior approach. Better materials and implantation methods also mean that hip replacements will last longer and may be ok for some younger (and older) people than before.

Knee Procedures

Knee Arthroscopy

Knee arthroscopy is a surgical procedure that allows Dr Hutabarat to view the knee joint without making a large incision (cut) through the skin and other soft tissues. Arthroscopy is used to diagnose and treat a wide range of knee problems.

Knee Replacement Surgery

Knee replacement is done when the surfaces in the knee are worn out and painful. These days it is not as painful as it used to be thanks to better anaesthetic techniques. Better materials and implantation methods also mean that knee replacements will last longer and may be ok for some younger (and older) people than before.
